Parish Funding
Richard Gascoyne, Parish Funding Officer
Richard says: "I joined the Diocesan Funding Unit in April 2002 to work on a series of funding programmes and initiatives.
"My background before joining the unit had been in charity and volunteer fundraising, having just finished a two year contract with Mercy Ships. I was delighted to be offered the chance to work with other Christians for our Church and to be able to use the skills I had learned over the previous 20 years for the benefit of the Newcastle Diocese.
"One aspect of my work that I have found to be most satisfying has been the 'opening up' of existing funding programmes to make them more accessible and flexible so they work better for each individual parish. I believe we must ensure that the work the funding unit and parishes do together is God-centred, serving both today's and tomorrow's faithful people. As Christians we have a duty to ensure that our churches are able to meet the needs and aspirations of our congregations and communities. I am confident that the programmes we now have are able to do this."
